Friends of Labor Festival
Dates: Saturday-Sunday, September 2-3, 2018
Location: Steelworker’s Park , Chicago, IL
Attendance: 20,000
Demographics: Solid middle class families
Overview:
On Labor Day weekend, September 2-3, in southeast Chicago, a wonderful tradition takes place: the annual Friends of Labor Festival.
Presented by Susan Sadlowski Garza, 10th Ward alderwoman, and benefitting the Friends of Labor Organization, it’s truly a community affair that also includes the neighborhood’s annual Labor Day Parade on Saturday.
Labor unions and their families from all over Illinois and Indiana come together in solidarity and support of Organized Labor and of the American middle class way of life.
To say that The Friends of Labor Day Festival is a true slice of Americana is to barely do it justice. This event offers two days of high quality entertainment from two stages, a huge elaborate fireworks show, a n imaginative, unique kids area, and a wide variety of both festival food and food provided by local restaurants. Food choices include everything from delicious BBQ, authentic Chinese, Italian, GREEK, Mexican and American standards to bakery goods and confections as well as specialty items.
Main Stage entertainment is another big draw-offering continuous live music from some of the highest rated cover bands in the Midwest. Throughout the course of two days, attendees may experience music from multiple genres and eras – rock, blues, country, soul, alternative and even a little heavy metal. Meanwhile, the Community Stage offers entertainment from local sources- and a lot of it is also high quality!
The Kids Area is also a big draw and keeps kids entertained for hours with a wide variety of atractions including camel and pony rides, a petting zoo, games, face painting, bouncy houses and more.
The Friends of Labor Day Festival is a veritable feast of food and music, all the while celebrating the American middle class – the back bone of this country.
