Overview:
Early on a September Saturday morning, the busy intersection of Damen and Roscoe is barricaded to vehicular traffic, as two stages, at least twelve mini BBQ kitchens, a Bourbon Tasting Pavilion, merchant and sponsor booths and a Kids Entertainment Area fill the street between Damen Avenue and Wellington. A festival takes shape…. and what a festival it is!
The phenomenal rise in the popularity of bourbon whiskey is the driver behind this event. The Bourbon Tasting Pavilion is the event’s central attraction- offering more than twenty types of bourbon for tasting – creating what is best described as a ‘flavor extravaganza’.
Included in this Tasting are ‘High Corn’ bourbons, ‘High Rye’ bourbons, ‘Cask Strength’ bourbons, ‘Wheaters’ and of course ‘Sour Mash’ bourbons. This Tasting Pavilion is rightly called a ‘bourbon lovers paradise’, and is the only one of its kind in the city.
To further educate and entertain-the event features Mixologists that periodically demonstrate bourbon cocktail recipes– ranging from the unique and exotic to classic.
There is no better food companion to bourbon than barbeque- and this festival does not disappoint. At least twelve top barbeque chefs, of all types, offer up their signature dishes which can be consumed in comfort in the huge seating area.
Nightly performances by big name music acts, a children’s entertainment area and a wide variety of merchant booths round out this unique festival.
The Bourbon & BBQ Festival offers two days’ worth of quality entertainment just as the regular festival season comes to an end. It’s a perfect sponsorship opportunity for any company wanting to target Millennials and GenX families in a relaxed and friendly setting. This event is packed from the moment it opens to its last closing minutes.
