The North Shore's oldest and most prestigious juried fine arts festival takes place on the weekend of the Summer Solstice- the longest days of the year.
One of the event's hallmarks is its roster of dozens of artists who create eco-friendly art from re-cycled and found materials. These re-cycle artisans add an exciting dimension to the existing seventy-five juried fine artists including local Evanston artists. This addition not only greatly increases the selection of art- but it also introduces the concepts of 'green' and 'eclectic'. The recycled portion of the event includes interactive sessions with event participants to gain hands-on knowledge of creating art from recycled materials.
Adding to this new eclectic atmosphere are high quality street performers and musicians borrowed from nearby universities, high schools, theaters, orchestras and jazz ensembles. These quality musicians and street performers will perform at random points throughout the event site.
An 'urban street art' project will be housed under a tent. This interactive 'street art' will be painted by any and all children- young and old. It will be painted in a pixel format on a huge poster board and will be created and completed over the two-day festival. It will then be installed in a public Evanston location.
Another big, important change is the re-drawn site plan. It has been deliberately designed to give the visitor a continuous experience of 'surprise & delight'. Fine and recycled art booths are mixed with music and street performers, sponsors, merchandise vendors, food, wine and beer. As visitors stroll through the event site, the elements of surprise and delight are continuous- and the 'unexpected' dominates the overall experience.
In general, art festivals have proven to be an especially strong environment for sponsor impact. The Evanston Chamber Artisan SummerFest takes this to the next level. The visitor's experience of 'surprise & delight', and the randomness of the site plan creates a more welcoming, relaxed, slower-paced environment for sponsors to engage the crowd.
