The North Shore's oldest and most prestigious juried fine arts festival is undergoing an evolution and expansion that raises the bar for outdoor art fests everywhere as it creates a near perfect environment for sponsors: Evanston Chamber Artisan SummerFest (formerly Fountain Square Art Festival) that's held in the heart of upscale (and bustling) downtown Evanston.
The expansion started in 2017 and begins with the addition of dozens of artists who create eco-friendly art from recycled and found materials. This addition of unique artisans to the existing 90-plus juried fine artists including local Evanston artists is a game changer. This addition not only greatly increases the selection of art, but it also introduces the concepts of 'green' and 'eclectic'.
Adding to this new eclectic atmosphere are high quality street performers and musicians borrowed from nearby universities, high schools, theaters, orchestras and jazz ensembles. These quality musicians and street performers will perform at random points throughout the event site.
Another big, important change is the re-drawn site plan. It has been deliberately designed to give the visitor a continuous experience of 'surprise & delight'. Fine and recycled art booths are mixed with music and street performers, sponsors, merchandise vendors, food, wine and beer. As visitors stroll through the event site, the elements of surprise and delight are continuous- and the 'unexpected' dominates the overall experience.
In general, art festivals have proven to be an especially strong environment for sponsor impact. The Evanston Chamber Artisan SummerFest takes this to the next level. The visitor's experience of 'surprise & delight', and the randomness of the site plan creates a more welcoming, relaxed, slower-paced environment for sponsors to engage the crowd.
